Taste the Hat-W Difference

Our beef is nothing like the supermarket shelf product, and you'll recognize the superior taste the moment you bite into a big, mouth-watering burger. Our cattle are raised humanely and organically, feasting freely over acres and acres of natural grass. This obviously makes the cattle happy, but what's in it for you? How about fewer calories, lower saturated fat, and more health benefits, including more anti-oxidants, more cancer-combating Omega-3 fatty acids, more beta carotene, and more anti-aging Vitamin E? We promise that you won't miss the fertilizer, hormones, pesticides, and herbicides at all! But you don't need to take our word for it. Experience all the advantages of grass-fed beef for yourself. Our Story

Clint and Miranda Wagner are southwestern Colorado natives. Together with their two sons, Cole and Ian, they love fishing, boating & camping in the natural beauty of the 4-Corners area. Preserving the environment is important to the whole family.

The Wagners understand that the first step they must take is to be good stewards of the land. That includes caring for the soil, the water, the air, the livestock and those who work the land. They do not view sustainable ranching as their profession but live it as their passion. With a healthy respect for the land and the responsibility that comes with managing it wisely, they look forward to letting you experience high altitude quality beef. Show More

Questions

Very simply actually. You place your order in person or via phone or email. We reserve a calf for you, bring it up to our high altitude pasture, let it graze free range until the fall when we drive the cattle off the hill and into our winter pastures. We'll call to ask you your processing preferences as outlined on this form. Wagner Bulk Order Preferences We then bring your beef to a WCC approved locally-owned processing house where your beef is humanely processed and wrapped for you to pick up. Order today and enjoy this fall!

Absolutely! Our standard payment breakdown is 50% down and 50% due upon receipt of your grass fed beef package. But in these difficult times, we can be a bit flexible. For bulk beef packages, we are also willing to discuss monthly payments

Wagner Cattle Company is a sustainable ranching operation.

SUSTAINABLE agriculture involves food production methods that are healthy, do not harm the environment, respect workers, are humane to animals, provide fair wages to farmers, and support farming communities.

LOCAL agriculture does not guarantee that it is sustainably produced. Pesticides, chemical fertilizers, factory farming, hormone use can all be involved in local food production, so it's important to make sure that the local food you buy is from farmers or gardeners using sustainable methods.

Gelbvieh (pronounced as gelp-fee) originated in Bavaria, in southern Germany in the late 18th and early 19th century where the name Gelbvieh means “golden cow”. They are used to high altitude climates, which makes them perfect for our Colorado mountains. As with most of the European breeds the Gelbvieh was originally selected for meat, milk and work. The modern Gelbvieh cattle are well-balanced, long-bodied and well-fleshed. They are moderately framed and without being bulgy, they carry meat well down the hind quarters. Gelbvieh cattle have strong, well-placed limbs which stand on dark, hard hooves. The breed is now generally golden brown or reddish in colour with strong skin pigmentation, (Pigmentation is a trait which is now believed to reduce problems associated with soft hooves, sunburned udders and cancer eye.) Gelbvieh animals also adapt to most ranges or climatic conditions. The Gelbvieh breed has outstanding maternal traits: fertility, excellent mothering instincts, quiet temperament, good udders and prolific milk production. They will produce a live calf with minimum calving difficulty, and produce high weaning weights every year.

1. Health-wise, it's much leaner than its conventional counterpart. It's also higher in key nutrients, including antioxidants, vitamins, and a beneficial fat called conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) that's been tied to improved immunity and anti-inflammation benefits. Plus, grass-fed beef packs about 50% more omega-3 fatty acids than standard beef. Grass-fed beef is also less likely to contain “superbugs”—bacteria that have become resistant to three or more classes of antibiotics—so it’s considered superior from a food safety perspective as well

2. For the cattle, whose stomachs are not equipped to process grain properly, it's kinder because grass is what they were designed to eat. Marbling in the meat is caused by a grain-only diet. Straight grain diets make cows sick. Their stomachs can't process it properly. Because of that, it turns directly into fat. Here at Wagner Cattle Company, we believe in treating our animals with respect & empathy, So it's a win-win situation.

Our Motto

"Here’s an idea! Let’s treat a cow like God intended. Let’s let them roam free. Let’s let them eat what they are designed to eat. Let’s treat them humanely.

After all, they nourish us in the end, we should give them a good life."
